Vivaer
Why do patients have nasal obstruction?
There are many causes including septal deviation, turbinate hypertrophy, and allergies. Additionally, the internal nasal valve is a common cause of nasal obstruction that can sometimes be overlooked. Patients will often use breath rite strips to help or pull their cheek outward to help improve nasal breathing.
What can be done about nasal valve collapse?
Vivaer is a minimally invasive in-office procedure which was FDA approved in 2017 to improve the nasal valve opening. After local anesthetic is applied, a low heat radiofrequency wand is used to remodel the nasal passage to improve airflow

How do I know if the procedure is right for me?
Patients are likely to have benefit if they respond to the diagnostic test called the Cottle Maneuver which is easy to perform on yourself and a Nose Score of 55 or higher, indicating moderate to severe nasal obstruction
Is the procedure uncomfortable?
The procedure is very well tolerated with minimal discomfort and patients can continue their day with no down time. There is congestion and nasal crusting which lasts 1-4 weeks after the procedure.
Is the procedure effective?
Studies show that 97% of patients have significant improvement in nasal breathing. 94% with improved breathing with exercise and 89% of patients getting a better night’s sleep. More than 60% of patients used few medications, nasal sprays and breath rite strips. A recent 4-year study showed continued benefit for 96% patients who responded to the follow-up survey (benefit was defined as improving by 15 points on the Nose Survey).
Where can I get the procedure done?
Dr Golgert was the first doctor to perform this procedure in the office.
